My latest article on WomenGamers

Yay! My new article went up (I sent it in… Monday night, I think?) If you want to check it out, go to WomenGamers and read “The role of In-game Ads.” Go, read, be entertained or something… it’s not funny like the older articles, but it might be interesting…

    Ads in games…

Ever play any of the games at

Acrophobia used to interrupt between rounds for full screen ads, but recently cut that in favor of a banner ad that is onscreen the whole time. I think the “You Don’t Know Jack Webshow” still has commercial breaks in it, but I haven’t been on for a while. It seems ok, though, because the game is fun, and free, so why not watch some ads for that right?

As for in-game ads for home-purchased games, I don’t know. I agree it would suck to sit through ads while waiting to play. Product placement during opening cinematics, Lara Croft enjoying some brand name tea, etc, wouldn’t bother me too much, as I am used to that in movies anyway. The racing games have had ads for years, although usually plugging other games by the same manufacturer.

Hey, in many industries, mine included, ads pay the bills in one way or another, so all-in-all I can’t complain much…

I don’t complain about them, I just think they there’s always potential to go too far. 😉 There are some great ads out there that I love (TV ones) so I can’t complain either. But there are a lot that insult my intelligence, and they piss me off. 🙂
