I’m interested… because I’m in the market for a new guitar and I’ve been looking around. I’m embarassed to say that I’m not familiar with the differences/advantages/disadvantages of a 12-string over a 6-string. Can you tell me about it?

12 String guitars are a bit more challenging to play, since you’re pressing down 12 strings instead of the usual six. The neck has to be a lot stronger, because there’s basically twice as much tension on it. The difference in sound is pretty noticeable… A twelve string is very rich sounding, there’s a lot more depth to the tone of it. It’s harder to pick the strings, but the sound when you’re strumming is just gorgeous. The only downside really to a twelve string is that it’s a bit harder to keep in tune – you have to keep on top of that. It’s worth it for the sound, I think. Oh, and you should have a guitar humidifier for it, especially in winter.

This one is a Seagull S12+ – the specs for it are on the La Patrie site. It’s a solid-top guitar (basically means the more you play it the better it’ll sound over the years.) It’s in really good condition. I’d actually rather not have to sell it, but I kind of need the cash since I lost my full time job a few weeks back, and part time hours are few and far between.

I’m going to have to think about the 12 string thing… I’m not 100% sure that I want to start from square one in terms of learning pressure points and building callouses. 🙂

Also, I hate the idea of you not having something you love that much. Is it the only thing you can sell?

Pretty much. I’ve got another 4 guitars in the house, but none of those I can/want to sell (the electric is just a piece of crap, the others I’m not letting go of.)

Haven’t thought of anything else to sell.

Ok… let me look into my finances/requirements for a guitar and I will let you know ASAP. 🙂
If not I’m sure you could auction it, if you have trouble finding another buyer..

I can’t sell on ebay since I don’t have a credit card… might bring it back to the Long & McQuade I got it from and see what they’ll give me for it, otherwise.
