I somehow doubt that my boss would go for this, but I could wish.
Adam told me that his parents offered to let us live in the cottage while we’re in transition. Theoretically, the work I do here could easily be done from any PC with net access. Satellite net connection is considerably cheaper than paying rent on a place. And we could store our belongings for about 75$ a month or so, also considerably cheaper than paying rent. It would give us the opportunity to save some money so that when we needed to move we could actually afford to do so. It would make it entirely possible for us to buy groceries (which we haven’t done in longer than I can remember.) It would take hideous amounts of stress out of our lives.
The cottage is north a ways. It’s a fully-equipped house, washer/dryer fridge/stove and all that. Not to mention the lake, canoe, pontoon boat, and ancient forest. It would be true telecommuting, although I know I could get into toronto every couple of weeks if needed for meetings or something.
A virtually ideal solution… Except I’m pretty sure my boss wouldn’t be too keen on the idea.
