I have to say that, considering neither myself nor my kayaking partner had ever been in a kayak in our lives, we survived this race rather well. I learned to steer a tandem kayak. I paddled for six kilometres (that’s 3.73 miles, for the imperial-using folks) without stopping. I’ve never spent any time in or on the ocean either swimming or in a personal watercraft before this. We were competing against people who had kayaked before, of course… many of whom had trained. Some of whom were olympic athletes. So yeah. I’m glad we finished. Heh.
I’m thrilled that we finished our leg of the relay. Six km tandem kayaking is very cool, but next time I think I’d like to try a solo kayak.
Oh yeah, and now that I’ve kayaked I know how to answer when people ask me if I’ve ever kayaked. Oh, yes, but only competetively… Hehehehehehe.
This afternoon when I got home, Mom came by with Merv & Nanny. They dropped Nanny off for a visit with me (Adam was at work) while Mom & Merv went to see a business partner of Merv’s. I actually had some fun hanging out with Nanny. It was good. She let me play some guitar & sing for her, and I think she even liked it. Adam got home and then Mom & Merv returned. We sat around for a little while chatting, then they headed home. Adam’s been on the phone with his parents for the past hour or so. I am starving and must make food now.
Also, my burns hurt already. Doh! And I used sunscreen even!
