On my desk at work sits a globe. At first glance, you think it’s solid glass with green and blue silicon beads and sparkles embedded in it. It looks very soothing and fluid and almost like it’s another world kept inside a sphere.

This, however, is misleading.

When you reach out to pick up the globe, you realize that your initial impressions were wrong… rather than hard glass, the surface of the globe gives way, feeling more like a globe of a gelatinous type substance. When you move it around, the silicon beads float around serenely through the sparkles. When you crush it between your fingers, it gives but doesn’t break.

Now whenever anyone wanders past my desk they have to reach out and touch it, or pick it up, or push on it.

hey j.l., it’s great that you’re giving something back into your working community….. just think how unchallenged, bored, and one dimensional people would be if you weren’t there to slice a peaceful crack of ‘wow!’ in their day-to-day schedules. prod for creativity and nice decor 😉
