I wasn’t having the happiest evening at work today. I had sent a couple of unhappy text messages to Adam, and planned to phone him when I went on my break. My break ended up happening a lot later than I expected (at 7:30 instead of 6:30,) and I was sitting by myself in the eating area of the lodge, when I sent Adam a last text message saying I would call him as soon as I finished actually eating.

I sat there eating my pasta and feeling kind of miserable. Out of nowhere, someone suddenly sat down next to me. I thought maybe it was one of the people who work in the lodge, on a break of their own or something, so I looked up to say hello. There sat Adam, with flowers for me.

I was very surprised.

He decided that since I was having a bad evening at work, I needed some cheering up. Armed with flowers and a box of Stash herbal teas, he somehow managed to show up precisely when I went on break. My break being pushed forward an hour was suddenly a fortuitous thing, instead of just ‘less time to work when I get back from break.’

We spent my dinner break just sitting at the table listening to the music and talking. He walked me back down to the store where he picked a dreamcatcher out and bought it for me (as a passholder he gets the exact same discount that staff gets.) Then he headed home, and I spent the rest of the evening in a better mood.

I think he’s a keeper.
