Earlier this week, Sarah at work asked me to take some notes for her in a meeting on Thursday. I said okay, thinking it was kind weird but whatever, I’ve taken notes for people before and it’s easy. Today I was preoccupied (like I have been all week) about a project I’m trying to get rolling before I leave next weekend for the wedding, so I apparently noticed nothing of what was going on in the office. Occasionally I can be clueless, this was one of those times.
Four O’clock rolls around and Sarah comes up saying she’s ready for that meeting. I pick up a pen and my notebook, and call Shannon to have her cover the phones for me. She’s not there, so I assume she’s already on her way. Following Sarah, I head for the boardroom, where the doors are shut. It occurred to be briefly that the doors being shut was a tad weird, but again I dismissed it as nothing important.
Sarah opens the door, I walk in, the entire female staff of the office yells SURPRISE! and I think I nearly jumped out of my skin. I could feel my face turning bright red, it felt like it was on fire. They naturally took pictures of me, which Michelle told me she would email.
We then had a bridal shower in the boardroom, putting the phone on night attendant and partaking of many yummy finger foods, playing silly games, opening gifts, and creating a lovely hat for me to wear home out of the ribbons and wrapping paper. Apparently they all thought I would have figured it out by now. I guess they just picked the right week to get things by me, I’ve been so completely preoccupied. There were lovely gifts and cards and it was awesome that someone threw me a party. I was thrilled, I think this is the first surprise party I’ve ever had thrown on my behalf. Truly fantastic. I even wore the hat home.
After the party I met up with Adam, we got a lift home with Crystal from work, and then Adam & I had a lovely dinner and walked around up and down Lonsdale Ave. It was a good afternoon and evening. I’m painfully full. It’s great.
